the gift of caring

At Oak Crest our staff gives the gift of caring everyday. Holidays can be particularly stressful for families and older adults are inclined to suffer the most. Having lost much in their long lives, the older adult cannot help but recall those losses at holiday times. The best approach is not the easiest one. Acceptance and patience is required to let an individual be themselves and have the best holiday they can. It is most important not force the issue of  "be happy" or "be excited" it is Christmas.Instead take a neutral stance. Sometimes those feelings just don't come and it is at that moment that our staff accepts the place our members are emotional state takes them.
Take a tip from the Oak Crest staff and enjoy your holiday as you wish and allow your older adult friends to do the same. Here's to the spirit of the season.
